This topic is very exciting to me; as much as I love makeup … Skin care is even closer to my heart. I hope you won’t get bored with this, but I’m going to tell you about how Honey is made, what the benefits are, and why I love using it every morning.
When I was in High School (HS) I read a book called The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and I had no idea about Honey, and its benefits why we use it at home other than being a sweetener. Then, I read that if you take 1 tablespoon full of honey, your vocals will be better and smoother and your voice will be nice. So for 2 years I took that 1 table spoon of honey every morning until I left HS. My voice improved a lot; I mean I am not Adele but good enough.
In the 16th century Honey was valued as a natural sweetener long before sugar. This is why Winnie the Pooh loves Honey for its sweet reward!
How Honey is made:
Honey bees convert nectar into honey by a process of regurgitation and evaporation. They store it as a primary food source in wax honeycombs inside the beehive. Honey gets its sweetness from the monosaccharides fructose and glucose, and has about the same relative sweetness as granulated sugar. You can read more about it in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey
Moving on to the top 5 ways Honey benefits for the skin, and why it was beneficial for me to use.
Lightens up Dark circles: A spoonful of honey may help fade dark circles and ease swelling under the eyes
Organic Moisturizer: The sugar in honey act as a natural humectants and emollients, which increase the water content and reduce dryness in the skin even after you wash it off.
Smooth out wrinkles: Because it has a high antioxidant, powerful botanical compounds neutralize blemish and wrinkle-causing free radicals on the skin surface and within deep tissues, before they can damage.
Hides Burning Scars: The acidity that is found in honey helps your skin regenerate (gets ride of burn scars) and create a healthier tissue.
Acne-prone skin: Honey contains antibacterial and antifungal properties that thwart bacteria that can lead to breakouts. Its anti-inflammatory properties will calm redness and irritation.
How to Wash your Face with Raw Honey:
- Wet your face with warm water
- Scope about 1 teaspoon of raw honey into your fingers, or pal of your hand
- Rub you fingers together with the opposite sides and then massage it into your face. I do circular motion and just relax and let it heal my skin.
- I wait about 30 seconds and I just was my face with warm water, make sure to wipe off anything that’s left, because it’s sticky.
And you’re done!
Which Honey should you buy?
I buy a brand called Dutchman’s Gold Raw Honey. You can get any brand you want there isn’t any specific one, but what you need to make sure it has is that it needs to be Raw, Unheated, Unpasteurized, and only lightly filtered.
